The City of Dothan Leisure Services Department will host the 2016 Special Olympics Alabama State Basketball Tournament March 10-11, 2016. There will be 30 teams competing from throughout Alabama.
Opening Ceremonies will be held at Westgate Recreation Center beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016. During Opening Ceremonies there will be an introduction of teams and the Olympic Torch will be brought in by a member of the Dothan Police Department and an athlete from the Dothan Special Olympics program.
Competition will begin on Friday, March 11, 2016 at seven different sites (Wiregrass Park, Walton Park, Andrew Belle Community Center, Westgate Recreation Center, Calvary Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and Northview High School) beginning at 9:00 a.m. The host team, Dothan Blast, will be competing at the Northview High School Convocation Center. There is no admission charge to attend these games.
Through Special Olympics, intellectually challenged children and adults are given the opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills and talents by competing in activities that allow them to be successful.
