[ARCHIVED] Dothan Police Department Alert: Telephone Scam Involving the IRS

The Dothan Police Department has recently received numerous complaints from citizens regarding a telephone scam involving the IRS. Numerous citizens have reported receiving phone calls from individuals identifying themselves as IRS employees. The caller usually will claim that you owe money to the IRS and to avoid penalty ask that you pay immediately. Anyone receiving similar calls is urged to contact your local law enforcement. Investigators with the Dothan Police Department advise anyone receiving such calls to not give out personal information over the telephone. If you receive such call and are concerned that you may owe money please go in person to the local IRS office and speak with a representative in person not on the telephone.
