[ARCHIVED] Public Forum to Discuss How Budget Cuts at Fort Rucker Would Affect the Wiregrass

On Monday, February 23, 2015, a public forum with the Department of the Army will be held at Fort Rucker beginning at 6:00pm in the Post Theatre. Mayor Mike Schmitz is requesting the support of our local citizens in attending this critical forum.

It was recently announced by the Department of the Army that Fort Rucker will be facing a potential 40% reduction cut in their annual budget with the initiation of the Sequestration Federal Budget Law on October 1, 2015 unless the United States Congress changes or repeals the Law. This severe cut to Fort Rucker will result in the direct loss of nearly 3,000 jobs and a potential indirect loss of upwards to 15,000 jobs in the Wiregrass area.

Therefore, it is vitally important that the citizens of Dothan and the surrounding area attend this forum to let the Department of the Army's representatives hear firsthand accounts of our concerns regarding these potential, as well as, our support and appreciation for Fort Rucker and Army Aviation.

Free public transportation will be provided for this forum. Please call (334) 615-3111 for more information.
