[ARCHIVED] April is National Lineman Appreciation Month

April is Lineman Appreciation Month (2)

Begun as an Act of Congress in April of 2013, National Lineman Appreciation Day is the time to #ThankALineman, as the hashtag states, for the contributions that these men and women make to protect public safety and keep power flowing to homes and businesses across the United States. According to LinemanAppreciationDay.com, a website run by the Northwest Lineman Collage, the day is usually celebrated April 18 but many utilities are designating the entire month of April as Lineman Appreciation Month.

When passed by the Senate in 2013, the congressional resolution stated that linemen are often the first responders during storms and other catastrophic events; sacrifice time with their families and friends; and work in dangerous conditions with thousands of volts of electricity atop high power lines to keep electricity flowing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and therefore should be recognized and appreciated for their dedication and service.

The U.S. has approximately 170 million wood poles, 2.7 million transmission towers and 9 million miles of wires all serviced by electric linemen. So take some time on social media to #thankalineman this month!
