At approximately 2305 hrs the Dothan Communications Center received a 911 call
reporting a structure fire in the 200 Block of Ginnalou Dr. Initial dispatch information
advised the residence was possibly still occupied. Units arrived on scene to find heavy
fire showing from the entire structure. Additionally, upon arrival, firefighters
encountered three residents that had exited the structure with significant injuries. All
patients were transported to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries sustained
during the fire. One patient had serious injuries and was admitted locally while the
remaining two patients were transferred to a Birmingham hospital due to the criticality
of their conditions. There were two fatalities also inside the home. Flames were
quickly brought under control and crews were able to conduct a search of the
remainder of the residence which is a total loss due to fire damage.
Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams has not released the names of the deceased at this
time. Chief Williams added, “Our thoughts are with this family during this very
difficult time.” Williams continued, “This is tragic for this family, our Department
and our entire City.” Investigators from the Dothan Fire Department continue to
investigate the cause of the fire with assistance from the Dothan Police Department.
“Due to the number of injuries and fatalities, the cooperative effort, from both
Departments, allows us to better document the scene as required in these types of
incidents,” says Dothan Fire Marshal Chris Etheredge. The cause and origin of the
fire is still under investigation at this time. Further updates will be provided as they
become available.
