On October 4, 2022, the Dothan City Commission approved an ordinance regulating the location of short-term rental housing units (STRs), require that they get a business license, and remit lodging taxes. All STRs must obtain a business license by March 4, 2023 or be subject to penalties and interest.
STRs, located in a residential zoning district, require special zoning approval before a license may be obtained. Subsequently, the city entered into an agreement with a third party to provide administrative support services to enforce the ordinance. As part of the enforcement process, a tip line and online tip form have been established and are now available.
