Dothan Utilities has received the Steel Water Pipe Century Club award from the Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA), Lake Zurich, Illinois, in recognition of the reliability of the Dothan Dixie Standpipe, a 180,000 gallon riveted steel water tank which has been in service since 1897. A recognition plaque was presented to the City of Dothan at the August 6, 2013 City Commission Meeting.

STI/SPFA’s Century Club award recognizes utilities that have properly maintained their steel pipe components, resulting in 100 years of service in the delivery of clean drinking water critical for sustaining communities, businesses and industries and, most importantly, for sustaining life.

Dothan Utilities is now among a distinguished group of 24 cities/utility companies to receive this award, and it is the first honoree in the state of Alabama.

“We’re proud to receive this recognition for our Dixie Standpipe,” said Billy Mayes, Director of Dothan Utilities. “This 180,000 gallon water standpipe was the first water storage tank constructed in Dothan and supplied the townspeople of Dothan their first supply of water. The Dothan Dixie Standpipe is a historical landmark to the citizens of Dothan as it has stood tall at its original location for over 100 years.”
