Wiregrass Park Flag Football Fields
Project Project Description:
This project will consist of repurposing softball/baseball fields located behind the Wiregrass Recreation
Center into six multi-purpose fields to be utilized for flag football, soccer, and other recreation
sports. The project will include regrading and re-configuring the existing fields, upgrading the existing
parking infrastructure including adding connectivity to the upper and lower parking lots, new parking
spots will be added in addition to new handicap-accessible parking, new storm drainage, sidewalks, new
field and parking lot lighting, upgrades to the existing concrete bleachers, and a new maintenance barn
for the entire complex. Phase II of the project will add a new restroom and concessions building. The
Wiregrass Fields project is a collaboration between the City of Dothan, Visit Dothan, and Izell Reese,
Director of NFL Flag.
This project is funded by the City of Dothan. In addition to providing much-needed playing space for
recreation teams and leagues, these fields will provide the Dothan Leisure Services department with another
venue to attract local and regional multi-sport tournaments.
Project Timeline:
Work began on this project in August 2022. The project completion date for Phase I is projected to be Fall 2023.
Wiregrass Park Recreation Center celebrated its 40th Birthday on June 19, 2023.
