About the Center

The facility was built in the 1950’s and most recently was renovated and upgrades made for handicap accessibility. Renovations included construction of two teaching kitchens for life skills and culinary programs, a large pantry/storage area, renovations to commercial kitchen to include new equipment and storage space, a large game room, two classrooms used for day program activities, a pottery classroom, gymnasium, upgraded pool dressing rooms/restrooms to include full handicap accessibility, and a family restroom. The center has been transformed and now houses programs and events for our special need’s population.

The Doug Tew Therapeutic Recreation Center provides quality programs and events that enhances the health, independence, and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities while creating community awareness through partnerships that promote creative, social, and educational experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
