The City of Dothan provides residential curbside recycling collection service throughout all areas of the City! Recycling bins or carts are collected curbside in conjunction with each participating household’s garbage collection day. Residents can apply online by clicking the following link:

Recycling Information

City residents are encouraged to help the city reduce the amount of solid waste entering the landfill by participating in our recycling program. Please remember to never, ever, put sharp objects (needles, broken glass, etc.) in with your recycling. The following guidelines are essential to remember when recycling.

Bring recyclables to designated drop off points and place them in the appropriate bins.

Acceptable Items for Recycling Include:


  • Food & beverage cans (steel & aluminum such as vegetable, coffee, pet food, soft drink, pie pans, etc.)
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes (pizza, moving, etc.) 
  • All plastics (store bags, drink bottles, shampoo bottles, milk, detergent, laundry, etc.)
  • Kraft paper (cereal/food boxes,  paper towel roll holders, soft drink boxes, etc.) 
  • Cartons (milk, juice, beverage, etc.)
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Paper (office paper, telephone books, newspaper, sales ads, magazines, catalogs, computer printout paper, etc.)

  • Prohibited Recycling Materials Include:

    • Garbage/compost/trash 
    • Shrubbery, leaves, limbs, grass, tree stumps, etc.
    • Glass of any kind
    • Take-out or fast food containers/sandwich wrappers 
    • Styrofoam 
    • Carpet/furniture/electronics 
    • Insulation
    • Hazardous materials (paints, lacquers, chemicals, etc.) 
    • Oil (gasoline, motor oil, cooking oils, etc.)
    • Needles


    These prohibited items may be brought to one of the local landfills listed under the landfill tab.
