Garbage, Recycling, & Trash Collection
About Sanitation Collection
The Environmental Services Division operates the city landfill and provides weekly automated Garbage, Recycling, and Trash collection for all City of Dothan residents. The landfill facility operates from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Garbage Collection - Green Carts
"Garbage" is the refuse/waste that comes from your kitchen and bathroom. It's just organic waste (which means that it will deteriorate over time) along with clothing, food, etc. In order to be serviced, all of your household garbage needs to be bagged and placed in your official City of Dothan garbage cart by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Carts that are overfilled, facing backward, or out of ordinance in any other way will not be serviced. Any garbage outside of your garbage cart will not be collected.

The City of Dothan Environmental Services Division provides one garbage cart per service address. Only official City of Dothan garbage carts will be serviced. Official city garbage carts are green, 95-gallon, rolling carts. No more than two garbage carts will be serviced at a given address. Second garbage carts may be obtained for a cost of $50, which is added to your next utility bill. Only customers listed on the utility account can authorize this request.

Recycling Collection - Blue Carts
Along with weekly garbage collection, the City of Dothan also gives our residents the option of recycling! While recycling is not required, we do encourage our residents to help the City reduce the amount of solid waste entering the landfill by participating in our free recycling program. The Environmental Services Division only provides one recycle cart per service address. Only official City of Dothan recycle carts will be serviced. Official city recycle carts are blue, 95-gallon, rolling carts.

The safety of our drivers is of the utmost importance to us, so we ask our residents to please remember to never, ever put sharp objects (needles, broken glass, etc.) in with your recycling.
Questions about what goes in recycling? We've got info for that!
Carts that are overfilled, facing backward, containing "garbage" or other nonrecyclable items, or out of ordinance in any other way will not be serviced and will be subject to removal.

Trash Collection - Green Waste / Bulk Waste
The City of Dothan offers weekly curbside Trash collection, which is scheduled on the same day as your garbage and/or recycling day. "Trash" is the refuse/waste that comes anywhere but your kitchen and bathroom. To be collected, green waste (grass clippings, leaves, etc.) and bulk waste (furniture, appliances, etc.) is required to be neatly stacked curbside with enough room for our boom trucks to operate safely during waste removal. Only one Trash pile per residence will be collected. Unusually large Trash piles may be left uncollected.
To keep prices low for our residents, the City of Dothan does not collect construction debris, demolition debris, or tires. Because the Environmental Services Division is part of the City of Dothan municipality, only residential trash will be collected. Any Trash considered to be out of ordinance will not be removed unless inspected and approved by the Environmental Services Division.
Got a question about your trash pile? We can answer it!
