About
Commissioner Seagle
Ever wonder how
ordinary people get into politics? For Keith Seagle, it was a
series of events—little increments that added up to a life changing
decision. First there were suggestions from friends; then a
bit of prodding from family; then a few lively letters to the editor
in the public discourse. As the deadline approached, the local
newspaper reported that, despite intense public interest in the City
Commission, no one had stepped forward to challenge for the District
6 seat.
That article
was the tipping point. By the time he finished reading it,
Keith Seagle put down the paper and said “If no one else will stand
up, I will.” Thus, in the summer of 2007, began the wholly
unlikely political life of a non politician.
Keith Seagle
was raised an “army brat”, the middle son of an Army First Sergeant
and his hometown sweetheart wife. Moving from town to town and
always being the new kid in school, Keith learned to respect
differences and make friends quickly. He also learned
self-reliance and a healthy appreciation for what prayer, confidence
and hard work can accomplish.
While attending
the University
of South Alabama, Keith met
Deborah Smith of Dothan.
Keith & Deborah graduated together in 1978 when Keith was honored as
a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned a Second
Lieutenant in the US Army. They married two weeks later and
began serving their country with assignments stateside and in
Germany.
In 1989, Keith
& Deborah left active duty and moved back to
Dothan. Deborah had recently completed
law school and joined the practice of her father, longtime
Dothan
attorney J. Earl Smith. Keith earned a Master’s degree in
Counseling Psychology at
Troy’s Dothan Campus and went to work for
SpectraCare. He soon became a Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC) and Supervising Counselor. Keith currently serves as the
Director of Counseling and Career Services for the Dothan campus of Troy University.
Deborah is the managing partner of Smith & Seagle Attorneys, LLC in Dothan.
Keith has been
an army officer, a business owner, a counselor, and a community
volunteer. His hobby is restoring old pickup trucks. He
is active in our community having served on the Dothan
Beautification Board, as Chairman of the Dothan-Houston Co.
Substance Abuse Partnership Advisory Board, and as a youth sport
coach. He is the president of the local chapter of the
Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and has spoken at
numerous conferences at local, state and regional level on subjects
such as leadership and values. In 2000, the Troy State
University Dothan Alumni Association selected Keith as their Alumni
of the Year.
Keith &
Deborah Seagle
are the proud parents of two grown children and three grandchildren.
They are members of Covenant United Methodist
Church who are proud to call Dothan home and are not
bashful about promoting our great city.
Commissioner Seagle believes in serving the people and being a good
steward of their money. He was elected to a four year term that
began October 1st 2007. He looks forward to hearing from you and
invites you to contact him with your comments and concerns.
