Always Stay Away from Downed Power Lines
Report downed wires immediately to your local utility company or police department. Do not attempt to move any objects that come in contact with any downed lines.

Outage Guidelines
If the entire neighborhood or side of town is without power, there is an excellent chance that the utility company already knows and there is no immediate need to call.

If you are without power, but all the neighbors have power, then you should make sure that the problem is not internal to the home's electrical circuits, such as tripped breakers or blown fuses. Check to see if there is obvious damage to the electric meter box or the metal pipe on top, but never touch this equipment especially if it appears damaged. If all appears normal, then report the outage to the Dothan Electric Department by calling (334) 615-3302.

Once you have reported a power outage, there is no need to call Dothan Electric again for at least two hours. Repeat calls can make it difficult for first time callers to report their outages.

Dothan Electric concentrates on restoring electricity to the greatest number of customers in the shortest time period with priority given to vital community services such as public safety and emergency services.

Restoring Power
All homes or businesses are connected through a system of wires and equipment to generating plants that provide electricity to their customers. Power can be interrupted if there is any disruption of this system. All of the lines and equipment along a path between the generation plant and a home or business must be working in order for the electricity to be working properly. In larger outages, Dothan Electric starts with the larger lines working down to the smaller ones to ensure that all aspects of the system are working.
