Staff Services Bureau

 
 
The Staff Services Bureau is commanded by a Captain. Staff Services consists of an Operational Support Division, Court Liaison - Warrant Detail, both of which are commanded by Lieutenants and Docket Detention Division which is supervised by a civilian Jail Warden.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT DIVISION consists of  Records, Evidence-Property, Enhanced 911,Communications Center, and  Electronic Maintenance

Records is responsible for the automation of all data related to offenses, incidents, and arrests. This Division is responsible for maintaining all official records of the Department. The Dothan Police Department uses the National Incident Based Reporting System for all criminal offenses.

Evidence Property is staffed by an   Evidence Property Officer who is responsible for the receipt, storage, disposal and automation of items of evidence and property received.

Enhanced 9-1-1 is staffed by two Data Specialists who are responsible for the accurate and efficient maintenance of the 9-1-1 database, portions of the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatching) database, and the assignment of addresses in compliance with the appropriate standards. These personnel also provide and coordinate mapping, emergency response, and mutual aid between public safety agencies.

The Communications Center is staffed by 33 certified dispatchers and supervisors. The mission of the Center is: efficiently and effectively answering and dispatching all public safety calls for service through 9-1-1 or other routes by  utilizing a CAD ( Computer Aided Dispatching) System, alpha numeric paging system and 800 MHz radio system; answering the City switchboard while serving as a routing and referral point, etc.

Electronic Maintenance Division consists of three Electronic Maintenance Specialists who are FCC Licensed and are responsible for maintaining the communication equipment for the City of Dothan. Electronic Maintenance equips emergency vehicles with their specialized equipment as well as all City vehicles that have communication needs. Communication needs include everything from hand-held radios to telephones with the infrastructure (antennas, fiber optic, cabling, computers, software, etc.) that supports them.

 

DOCKET DETENTION DIVISION employs 22 civilian employees who provide security for the City of Dothan Jail. Inmates in the City Jail range from those serving time on Misdemeanor charges to Federal Prisoners being held for the U.S. Marshals Office. Docket employees supervise inmates who provide a labor force for various departments in the City. The Dothan City Jail has a 76-bed capacity, with a daily average population of 75.

COURT LIAISON - WARRANT DIVISION is staffed by a Lieutenant, four Sergeants, and one police officer whose duties include the serving of warrants and subpoenas, providing courtroom security, high risk prisoner transports, as well as back-up support for the Patrol Division. During 1999, the Warrant Division served 1,791 warrants, 2,212 subpoenas, made 1387 transports, and worked over 2,500 hours in court security.
