Amber Alert Plan Criminal
Investigations (CID) is a division within the Investigative Services Bureau.
It is staffed by 20 detectives and support personnel. A Lieutenant
coordinates day to day operations. A senior Police Sergeant, acting as
the Assistant CID Commander, augments this position. Four distinct
specialty units make up the division. These are Fraud/Forgery,
Burglary/Theft, Violent Crimes, and Technical Services. Each of these
units is staffed with detectives that handle all felony cases assigned for
investigation. Even though there is an extremely high volume of work
to be done, a cooperative effort with outside law enforcement agencies, such
as the FBI, ATF and ABI, insure a high solvability rate for crimes committed
in our region. This division routinely conducts awareness programs to
business and civic organizations on crime prevention.
Juvenile
Investigations (JID) is a division within the Investigative Services
Bureau. It focuses on investigating crimes perpetrated against children and
crimes that are committed by children. It also investigates and follows up
on domestic violence cases. Various crimes ranging from homicide and child
death investigations, to truancy issues are investigated. JID places great
emphasis on the multi-disciplinary team approach to its work. This approach
includes involvement with various community resource agencies such as the
Department of Human Resources; the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center;
the House of Ruth and Juvenile Court Services. This approach provides for a
less traumatic experience for victims and their families. Prevention is a
key component of this enforcement effort. Child safety fingerprinting,
conferences with students, parents and teachers on safety issues are all
activities completed by JID.
School
Resource Officers (SRO) mentor students in the middle and high schools.
There are twelve employees assigned to the Juvenile Investigation Division.
The commander is a Police Lieutenant and a Sergeant supervises day to day
operations.
