Chief John Powell
Chief of Police
Chief Powell began his law
enforcement career in 1983 as a Correction’s Officer in Escambia County, FL
(Pensacola). In 1984, Powell transferred as a Patrol Deputy with Escambia
County Sheriff’s Department. Powell worked all areas of assignment, to
include; narcotics, homicide, property crimes and robbery. Powell was
promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and in 1996 accepted position with the
United States Department of Justice FBI and served as a Special Agent until
1999. Powell was offered a Chief of Police position in Hartsville, SC and
served as Police Chief until 2001. Later, he served as Police Chief in
Wilson, NC until 2004.
Chief Powell received a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Masters Degree in Public
Administration Troy State University.
Chief
Powell is married to Beth Sharp Powell and has three children - Stephanie,
Russell, and Harrison.
