The Citizen's Supervisory Committee was created by Act No. 273, Alabama Law, dated August 7, 1947, as amended.

The Committee meets in regular session in April and October of each year to receive reports of the Mayor, Personnel Board and City Manager; to make recommendations to the Personnel Board for the administration of the Civil Service System; to elect a successor of any member of the Personnel Board whose term of office expires; and to transact any other business necessary in the general supervision of the Personnel Department.

The membership of the Committee consists of qualified electors of the City of Dothan who are members or representatives of one of the following federated, national or international organizations, associations or groups whose primary function is civic or service in nature:

• Altrusa Club
• Association of Women and Youth
• Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce
• Civitan Club
• Dothan Jaycees
• Dothan Rotary Club
• Dothan-Wiregrass NAACP
• Exchange Club
• Kiwanis Club of Dothan
• Kiwanis Club of Houston County
• Lions Club of the Wiregrass
• Lions Club of Dothan
• Optimist Club
• Pilot Club
• Renaissance Wives Club
• Rotary Club of Houston County
• Wiregrass Elks Lodge
• Young Men's Civic Club
• and any other like organization, association or group approved by three-fourths of the existing Committee membership.
