Applications are being accepted to establish an employment register for the position of Detention Officer with the City of Dothan, Alabama.  This is specialized guard, clerical and custodial work in the operation and security of the municipal jail.

Salary Range 38 $12.44 Hourly

The recruitment process for Detention Officer is on a continuous basis.  The examination process will be repeated periodically depending on the number of new applicants.  As these processes are completed, new candidates will be merged with the current eligible list.  Although your score will remain the same through this process, your placement on the eligible list may change.  You can retest once every six (6) months and will stand on the last score received.  Your total score will remain valid for a twelve (12) month period after which time, if you do not reapply, your name will expire from the Detention Officer register.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

The City of Dothan’s Police Department will administer a polygraph examination to anyone hired/promoted/transferred into the Police Department.  The examination will be a question and answer test that covers areas of your background, including but not limited to your employment application, employment history, and involvement in criminal activity, such as thefts and domestic violence, drug usage and participation in the distribution of illegal and legal prescription medications.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory completion of a twelve (12) month probationary work period.
  • An applicant for this position is subject to various background investigations to include a criminal, credit, past employment, and reference checks.  See City of Dothan’s Background Check/Investigation Policy.
  • Possession of a valid operator driver's license. Please present driver’s license at time of application or a copy if unable to return application in person.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • In an emergency and/or standby situation an employee in this position must be able to report to his/her regular work station in a maximum of 30 minutes from the time of notification.
  • An employee in this position is subject to random drug testing
  • Must meet the City of Dothan's employment physical standards which includes drug/alcohol testing.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be notified by mail regarding the examination.  The time, date and place of the examination will be assigned at a later date.  Applicant’s on vacation, military leave, etc., are responsible for attending the examination on the date scheduled.
