The Dothan Dolphins Swim Team is one of the few sports that is active year-round. With the use of Bohlert Indoor Pool located in James Grant at Westgate Park, the team can practice during the winter months and stay active for winter swim meets around the tri-state area.

The most active season is summer. The Dolphins participate in about three swim meets a month, with their season culminating at the annual Alabama Recreation & Parks Association State Swim Meet the last weekend in July. The team competes against recreation teams and United States Swimming Association teams in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.

The swim team has tryouts for ages six through 18 during the week for anyone interested in becoming a member. The minimum requirement is to be able to swim one length of the pool using the free style stroke.

After this requirement is reached, the swimmer may stay for that practice and also tryout with the team for two weeks at no charge. After two weeks, the quarterly registration fee is $40.00 for one child and $25.00 for each additional child in the family.

Currently the team has a wide range of talent from the novice swimmer to several regional qualifiers. The Dolphins encourage interested swimmers to tryout for the team. Beginner swim team members need to make two practices a week to stay on the team, but once you discover how rewarding and fun being on the Dothan Dolphin Swim Team is, you’ll wonder how you could have wasted all that time before!
