Fleet Services

  • Fabricated a trash truck from a flatbed truck.  Converted an unused truck to a trash body resulting in a savings of $7,500
  • In FY 2004, Fleet Services purchased $700,000 in new vehicles and equipment to keep our fleet safe and in feasible repair condition
  • Shop addition was completed for an existing 22,000 sq ft shop decreasing downtime tripling the service space
  • Successful recycling program for scrap metal, used oil and paper

 

Internal Analysis

  • Provided information to departments as needed in areas of compliance to IRS, State and local laws and coordination of City policies and guidelines
  • Provided the first ever follow-up of fuel consumption resulting in a monthly analysis and a contract for maintenance of the pumps
  • Provided quarterly water meter lists that indicate which meters are malfunctioning
  • Provided support to the court system over the past year that has involved excessive amounts of time and energy to work as a liaison with the court personnel and the HTE software company when a new software package was installed in November 2003
  • Worked as the Pension Board Employee representative to move the city retirement system to the state Employees Retirement System of Alabama by providing information to employees and the commission regarding costs and comparisons of actuarial reports
  • Provided the city with a method to move retiree Cola’s to a single anniversary date

 

Landscaping

  • Within the last 4 years, Landscape Division has planted over 300 new trees in the City of Dothan
  • In 2003, the Alabama Department of Urban Forestry award the “Getting Back to Nature” Award to the City of Dothan
  • 2002-2004, received grant money from Alabama Power or planting trees in different parks
  • A new “Welcome to Dothan” sign for Hwy 431
  • Began working on Justice Park, a new park at West Main Street and South Oates

 

Purchasing

  • Improved Communications with departments
  • Focused Internal Customer Service
  • Posted Bids on City’s website
  • Conducted workshop for user departments

 

Safety/Risk Management

  • Heightened employee awareness of safety throughout the City of Dothan

  • Expeditiously evaluates all city accidents and evaluates safety measures to reduce future occurrences

  • Vital role in the Utility Division’s service restoration after  Hurricane Ivan

  • Instrumental in assuring safety precautions
